Incidental German Birding

I got back last night from a whirlwind 6 day trip to Germany, completely unexpected. A father of a fellow physician invited me to come to Frankfurt to fill in for a physician who cancelled at last minute, and Kay and I just spontaneously said OK, and on a few hours notice packed our clothes and binos and flew to Germany. The trip was not at all oriented towards birding, largely visiting old medieval towns and a little bit of work, but I carried binos some days, and we saw a very few species. Fun to see European Robin, Jackdaws, and Great and Blue Tits, but really nothing we had not see on prior trips to France and England. We did get to see the little German towns including Rothenburg, Heidlburg, Wurzburg, and a few other burgs. Overall Kay and I decided we prefer what we have seen of Italy and France to Germany in terms of food, culture and cute little old towns, but it was great to experience a bit of Germany. Good to be home.
