First week back in Pierce

I got home Saturday July 2 from Santa Barbara and spent the weekend pretty much with the family. We did go for a walk in Orting on Sunday July 3, and located the Red-eyed Vireo by the river on the trail upriver from the Raft-put-in place on the Puyallup River. We found the bird by the orange marker #226 about a 1 1/2 miles upriver. Also got nice looks at SPSA.
July 4th we spent in Tacoma with friends and July 5th I worked in Bonney Lake 9-7.
Today I headed out to try to catch up on some Pierce FOY birds, and to see the nesting Eastern Kingbirds on JBLM by the McChord airstrip at Morey Pond. Heather Vorobil was gracious enough to sponsor me to get on post and took me right to the birds. This was a first-time Pierce County bird for me.

After this I tried for the long gone AWPE at the Pierce side of the mouth of the Puyallup and then quickly for Cinnamon Teal at Mt. View Cemetery Marsh both not found, and ended the morning with stops at Ft. Steilacom to get Bullock’s Oriole, at the flood control pond on 4th in Fife to get FOY Western Sandpipers, and an unsuccessful try for Heermann’s Gull on Marine View Drive. Home for lunch by 12:45 PM. Jean left today for Ireland, and Brett and Jean took her to the Vancouver airport and are staying up there tonight.
