Again this year the Red-eyed vireos have returned to the riverside dike area where the path through the field off 178th St. meets the river dike. As soon as I got near the river I could hear the REVI singing. I believe there were two birds together as I saw two similar birds in flight, one taking flight from right where it was singing. About 4-500 yards upstream another REVI was singing, and finally, on the walk back downstream I was able to get a good look, though brief. It was nice to get out for a birding walk after pretty much working steadily around the house since returning Monday from the east side trip with Ken. Kay had her infusion yesterday, and I worked today at SDC in Bonney Lake from 8-3 PM. Kay is out at a birthday party and so I broke out to see the vireo. I also had some fun trying to get some photos practicing some of the techniques I learned at Heather’s TAS class.
I felt good about these photos because I was able to find a way to get the sapsucker in focus and reasonably exposed despite it being in the middle of foliage and in shadows.
It was fun just to stalk up on this male Common Yellowthroat and get nice close photos.
